Private Violin

One-to-one lessons for ages 9 to adult, from complete beginner through to Grade 8, in 30, 45 or 60-minute sessions paced entirely to you.

Small, friendly violin groups of two to four students, so young beginners learn alongside others at a similar stage, with a complimentary booklet to start.

The Teachers

Founded and taught by sisters.

Bowed Strings began as a home-based studio founded by two sisters, and today teaches from a cosy Woodlands storefront, minutes from Marsiling MRT. Proudly Singaporean founded, the studio is led by sisters who play, perform and teach, alongside a small team of conservatory-trained instructors.

Known to students as Ms Cheong. A performing violinist with orchestra and concertmaster experience, teaching with patience and a focus on musical, stylistic playing, not just the right notes.

Leads the cello side of the studio with warmth and precision, guiding students on posture, bow hold and tone from the very first lesson through to exams.

What age can my child start?

Private violin and cello lessons are for ages 9 to adult, and we run kids and teens violin group classes for younger beginners. Complete beginners of any age are welcome.

Do you offer a free trial lesson?

Yes. Come down for a free trial with no obligation, and beginners receive a complimentary Bowed Strings booklet. Message us on WhatsApp to arrange a time.

Do I need my own instrument?

Not right away. Students may use the studio's instruments in lessons until they are ready to buy their own, so you can start before you invest.

Do you teach pop and jazz, or classical only?

We teach classical, pop, jazz and improvisation. Improvisation and jazz work best from around Grade 3 and up, and we'll guide you to the right path at your first lesson.

Do you prepare students for exams?

Yes. We coach students through ABRSM and Trinity graded exams and performances, with structured lesson plans and in-house chamber and group sessions.
